Prevent Injuries and Damages to Your Ford Truck

National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration says 71% of fatal multi-vehicle crashes involving a large truck are caused by the other vehicle. While it is true that you cannot predict and totally stop an accident or a collision from happening, you can do something to lessen the risk of meeting any misfortune on the road. Having durable and high quality safety auto parts and body parts in your vehicle can make a significant difference.
Today as we enter the busiest season of the year, Auto Parts Deal reminds every driver of his responsibility to keep his vehicle safe as he drives down the road.

Among the auto parts that serve the greatest purpose are the front and rear bumpers. These parts serve as shield to the vehicle as well as the occupants in the event of a collision. Bumpers may be made of steel, aluminum, rubber or plastic that is capable of absorbing force from low-speed collisions so that physical damage to the front and rear end of the vehicle may be reduced. Although the NHTSA says bumpers are not a safety feature intended to prevent or mitigate injury severity to occupants in the passenger cars; nevertheless injuries are lessened through bumpers and other safety parts in the car.

Bumpers found in trucks or SUVs are higher than those on passenger cars. Ford bumpers, GMC bumpers, Chevrolet bumpers and those of similar large vehicles are also sturdier since these vehicles are used for more challenging tasks such as hauling and towing. Truck and SUV bumpers are likewise higher to provide better ground clearance for the vehicle to easily and conveniently drive through steep grades, loading ramps, large rocks or any road obstruction when driving off-road.

To further prepare your vehicle against accidents, you can install new and stylish auto lights from Auto Parts Deal. Lights are also among the most essential safety equipments in your vehicle since they provide illumination on the road and make your car or truck visible to other drivers, passengers of other cars, and pedestrians. Lights don’t usually get busted too quickly but they also wear out and the light they emit grows faint through time as well; hence, you also need to replace them for maximum safety.

In addition to making your car safer especially during a harsh weathered day, auto lights also enhance your vehicle’s styling. Modern luxury cars can tell you how a simple set of headlamps can make or unmake a statement about your car.

F-Series Super Duty Trucks

The Ford Motor Company has been plagued by different problems in recent months. Last year, they have lost the most money in their storied and lengthy history. They have even used the company’s plants as collateral for a loan they needed badly.

And it seems that Ford is not out of the woods yet. Recently, the company announced that they are recalling diesel engined 2008 model Super Duty trucks. The recall is the result of reports of tailpipe fires on diesel variants of the 2008 model of the heavy duty pickup trucks. The culprit of these fires was discovered to be leaking oil or fuel ignited when it came in contact with the diesel particulate filter located near the tailpipe of the trucks.

As of today, FoMoCo received three reports of tailpipe fires. It can be remembered that Ford proudly announced the development of the particulate filter and its ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of the diesel engines. In one reported case, it was said that the truck’s hot tailpipe ignited the grass beneath it. Fortunately though, the grass fire was extinguished immediately and that no one was hurt neither in the incident nor in the other two cases of tailpipe fires.

The recall, according to Dan Jarvis, spokesman for Ford, “is an important product for us and an important customer base, and we want to move swiftly to make sure this does not become a safety issue for our customers.”The recall will be a big blow to the company’s reputation and it might as well negatively affect the sale of the Super Duty trucks. The truck is one of Ford’s most profitable vehicles and the company rally needs to address the situation as soon as possible. That is why Ford will be sending out recall notices to their customers in early April. But before that, their dealers can warn them of the possible risk of tailpipe fires.

The recall is the second problem that FoMoCo encountered with the Ford Super Duty Truck. It can be remembered that in late February, Ford’s engine supplier Navistar International Corp. halted deliveries of the PowerStroke engines due to contract disputes. The supply of the engines to Ford’s assembly plants is as abrupt as a vehicle stopped in its tracks by brake components from EBC Active Brakes Direct. The recall will affect the first 8,400 diesel Super Duty trucks for the 2008 model year. These vehicles will undergo software upgrades that according to Jarvis will only take less than ten minutes per vehicle. The new software upgrade will shutdown the vehicle once it detects abnormally hot temperature on the particulate filter. This will give drivers of the Ford Super Duty trucks to pull safely to the side of the road to let the particulate filter cool down before running the vehicle again.

Ford to trim production in Q1 of 2008

Filed under: Ford updates — Tags: — admin @ 12:41 pm

Ford has announced that it will trim its first quarter 2008 production by 7.4%. The automaker plans to produce 685,000 vehicles during the first quarter of 2008, down 55,000 units from the same period in 2007. The move is to control inventory amid concerns that the North American car market will be down in 2008.

“Clearly with the economy and the subprime credit and housing being down, we continue to watch that very carefully as we move into 2008,” Ford CEO, Alan Mulally, told Automotive News. “Of course, the most important thing we can do is adjust our production to the real demand, which we’ve done very carefully and very decisively during this last year.”

Ford will cut car production by 6% and Truck production by 8%. The Detroit-based automaker began to cut back production during the fourth quarter of 2006.

Ford has reportedly sold British marques Jaguar and Land Rover. The deal was done a few days ago but won’t be announced until February. The likely buyer is Tata, the giant automotive company in India. Tata wants to become a major global name and is looking for a European vehicle development centre. Ford earlier sold the other famous British nameplate, Aston Martin, to British-Kuwait interests. Another thing: Ford now apparently wants to hang on to Volvo.

Ford’s Automotive Components Holdings chief retires

Filed under: Ford updates — Tags: — admin @ 6:13 am

The head of Ford’s Automotive Components Holdings (ACH) unit, set up to sell off or close the former Visteon parts-making operations, is to retire.

Al Ver, a Ford vice president, and ACH’s CEO and COO, leaves the automaker at the end of the year after 35 years.

He will be replaced by Bill Connelly, newly named chief executive officer for ACH though he retains his CFO responsibilities there.

Connelly will head the Ford-managed, temporary business entity comprised of former Visteon plants and facilities in the US and Mexico, as it continues preparing the operations for sale or closure by the end of 2008, Ford said in a statement.

“Bill has been with ACH from the start and knows the component businesses within the group, as well as the component industry,” Ford Americas president Mark Fields said in the statement.

“We continue to operate in a very challenging environment, and having Bill at the helm is reassuring to me and everyone on the team.”

Connelly, a US Marine captain, joined Ford’s finance staff in 1972 and has since held a variety of positions within finance, including controller of Ford’s North America automotive operations and the customer service division, and director of the investor relations department.

Ford noted that Connelly was instrumental in the negotiations to form ACH in 2005 and, as its CFO, had significantly reduced operating costs and helped to progress the restructuring plans.

Ver joined Ford in 1972 as a manufacturing process engineer at the Mount Clemens, Michigan, paint plant and held a number of engineering and manufacturing positions within Ford and its component operations during his career.

Prior to his ACH post, he was vice president of Ford’s advanced manufacturing engineering organisation.

“Al has consistently contributed to Ford’s engineering and manufacturing organisations throughout his career and most recently has done an outstanding job in leading ACH through its transition,” added Fields. “We wish Al and his family well.”

Ford, Honda listed among safest vehicles

The number of new cars considered the safest by the insurance industry nearly tripled in the past year, helped by automakers’ push to make certain safety equipment more widely available.

Ford Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. had the most vehicles on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s annual list of the safest cars for 2008.

The institute requires new cars and Trucks to have electronic stability control, or ESC, to qualify for the award.

Ford was represented on the list by the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable passenger cars with optional ESC, and the Ford Edge, Ford Taurus X and Lincoln MKX midsize sport utility vehicles. The Volvo S80, C70 midsize convertible and XC90 SUV, part of Ford’s Volvo unit, made the list.

Honda and its Acura unit had seven vehicles on the list: the Honda Accord, Odyssey, Pilot, CR-V and Element, and the Acura MDX and RDX SUVs.
